In this article we want to list some of the most beautiful natural viewpoints that are near Madrid
Mirador de los Poetas
This is one of the most famous and emblematic viewpoints of the different hiking trails in Madrid, located in Cercedilla, specifically in the Fuenfría Valley in the Sierra de Guadarrama.
From here you can contemplate the immensity of Navacerrada, the Guadarrama Basin or La Maliciosa. In addition, its name hides a story that not many know, since the Mirador de los Poetas is a tribute to several poets who have died and whose inspiration came from the incredible views they witnessed from there.
For this reason, it was decided to name this natural area Mirador de Los Poetas.
The first poet to receive this tribute was Vicente Aleixandre. Currently, new names of poets have been added to this project.
Also, when you are at the viewpoint, you will be able to appreciate a part of the work of the poets, since many poems are engraved in the stones of the area.
Los Robledos viewpoint
Another incredible Parador in Madrid, is the one located in the Sierra de Guadarrama, between the Carpetanos Mountains and the Cuerda Larga, the Mirador de los Robledos.
You can access this one by car for a large part of the section and finish the last part walking, the views that you will find there will be well worth it. Currently there are several routes to reach the viewpoint, once you reach the top you will find a large plateau from where you can appreciate the incredible beauty of the meadows of the Sierra del Norte de Madrid.
In that same plateau, you will find a monument dedicated to the Forest Ranger and also to the you will find a compass rose with the four cardinal points, from where you will be able to contemplate, on the horizon, the Sierra de Ayllón and the Pinillareservoir, and even you will be able to see the village of Rascafría.
Las Canchas Viewpoint
This viewpoint is located in the Barranca de Navacerrada Valley. Here you can take different hiking trails that will take you to the top of this incredible natural stop.
If you’re looking to get to the top, here’s what you need to do
- If you go by car, you must park at the hotel La Barranca.
- Then, take the road that will take you to the Navacerrada reservoir.
- The next step is to reach the beginning of the Ortiz Trail to the Mirador del Real Sanatorio de Guadarrama.
- And finally you will be at the Mirador de Las Canchas.
This is a very simple route that you can do with family and friends. In addition, in the Sierra de Guadarrama you will find other villages to visit.
Cerro de Garabitas Viewpoint (in Casa de Campo)
If you want to get away from the noise of the city, but do not have enough time to take the car and go out, there is the option of the Garabitas Hill Viewpoint. This is the highest point of Casa de Campo and you can reach it in a very easy route.
You can arrive by subway or bus, and once in Casa de Campo you must follow the signs to reach the more than 600 meters that crown the viewpoint of Cerro de Garabitas.
Behind this hill there is an interesting history, as it was one of the most important places in Madrid during the Civil War. In fact, there are still remnants of that era, as one of the watchtowers that were used is still standing.
Puerto de Navacerrada viewpoint
This is one of the best known and most spectacular viewpoints in the Community of Madrid. It can be easily accessed from the parking lot of Puerto de Navacerrada and then ascend in one of the routes you can choose. When you reach the top you will be able to contemplate the Eresma River Valley.
If you decide to go in winter, you can enjoy the snowy peaks and in summer contemplate the green mountains, the views will take your breath away.
To get to the Mirador del Puerto de Navacerrada you will have to go by car and take the A-6 to Collado Villalba. Then take the detour to Segovia and you will arrive at Puerto de Navacerrada.
